Songs We Should Play More Often

So yesterday's post was about songs you're sick of. Today, I want to know what we don't play enough.

As always, I'll get us started. We should play more Joy Division. And Men Without Hats.

Song you're tired of

I only want one song from you, the one that you need us to put in the closet for a rest. I know that this is opening a fire storm of "You play too much ______!" So list the one song that makes you groan when it comes on X96.

I'll get us started. Personally, I can't stand "Under The Bridge" by Red Hot Chili Peppers. Great song, but I need a break.

Time To Burn Books!

The Utah Eagle Forum--excuse me, Evil Forum--is all upset about Brokeback Mountain. Now let's not forget that the movie is based on a novella by Annie Proulx in her collection Close Range: Wyoming Stories. That came out in the year 2000. Since nobody knows how to read, except for open-minded, educated people, almost nobody was aware of the book, despite its overall success and critical acclaim. But a major motion picture? We better ban it. We better call it "a horrible movie."

That's what Gayle and the Utah Evil Forum said about it. They were pleased that certain area theaters are choosing not to show it. And theater owners are free to do whatever they want. I have no problem with that.

I just think that the Evil Forum needs to get its heart in the right place. Don't merely applaud the fact that certain theaters aren't showing Brokeback Mountain, go right to the source: the book. Ban the book. Burn it. Show us who you really are. Bring back book burnings. Tell us what to think and do. We're not smart enough without your guidance.

It could be that the last bastion of free speech is your local bookstore or library. And Gayle, do me a favor. Read RATED F by Todd C. Noker. And then ban it. It makes light of things you undoubtedly support.

Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr.

I have to respect a man who said enough is enough and stood up for what he believes. I wish I knew more about this man (future personal reading project)but in the public schools that I attended, we really didn't go into his history. Shameful, I know. But like most things I've learned, I'll pursue this important knowledge on my own.

I believe U2 says it best in their song "Pride (In The Name of Love)."

As always, song lyrics are important.

Pride (In The Name Of Love)

One man come in the name of love
One man come and go.
One man come he to justify
One man to overthrow.

In the name of love
What more in the name of love.
In the name of love
What more in the name of love.

One man caught on a barbed wire fence
One man he resist
One man washed up on an empty beach
One man betrayed with a kiss.

In the name of love
What more in the name of love.
In the name of love
What more in the name of love.

Early morning, April four
Shot rings out in the Memphis sky.
Free at last, they took your life
They could not take your pride.

In the name of love
What more in the name of love.
In the name of love
What more in the name of love.

In the name of love
What more in the name of love.
In the name of love
What more in the name of love.
