Time To Burn Books!
The Utah Eagle Forum--excuse me, Evil Forum--is all upset about Brokeback Mountain. Now let's not forget that the movie is based on a novella by Annie Proulx in her collection Close Range: Wyoming Stories. That came out in the year 2000. Since nobody knows how to read, except for open-minded, educated people, almost nobody was aware of the book, despite its overall success and critical acclaim. But a major motion picture? We better ban it. We better call it "a horrible movie."
That's what Gayle and the Utah Evil Forum said about it. They were pleased that certain area theaters are choosing not to show it. And theater owners are free to do whatever they want. I have no problem with that.
I just think that the Evil Forum needs to get its heart in the right place. Don't merely applaud the fact that certain theaters aren't showing Brokeback Mountain, go right to the source: the book. Ban the book. Burn it. Show us who you really are. Bring back book burnings. Tell us what to think and do. We're not smart enough without your guidance.
It could be that the last bastion of free speech is your local bookstore or library. And Gayle, do me a favor. Read RATED F by Todd C. Noker. And then ban it. It makes light of things you undoubtedly support.

Yea... I hear what you are saying... I just think people are taking this way to far.
I see Larry Miller's right to take the movie out of theater's, and I see the point that other people make about "why not take other movies out that may be as if not more graphic."
What I think is, and I must say this seems like too much of a pun, gay is when people are boycotting LHM businesses saying "lets show him that we aren't going to support him for this action" and actually think that it's going to affect him in some way or radically change his views. What's better is when another group says "let's boycott the boycotter's." Ah, the aberrant forms of politics that we enculturated into...
I like how you point out the fact that it is based on a book Todd, but then again people are much more leanient towards literature than the silver screen. No one will ever say a movie is just like the book (though some will say it was close), so I doubt you will see people getting mad at the book.
All in all, I think it's so much fun to sit back and watch this trivial nonsense get bigger and bigger. I tip my glass to absurdity of both sides and salute you all.
oh, i also want a sound byte from off the news where the lady in charge of the strike said, "... for lack of a better word, their gay dollars..."
that's just priceless....
Todd is right this is just one more situation where "they" want to do the thinking for us. I agree that its Larry's right to show what he wants to in his theater, but lets get down to the nity grity someone is doing the thinking for Larry too, and we all know who or should I say what it is."They" dont like thinkers because thinkers ask questions.
If you dont know who "they" are you arent from Utah. Only one organzaion has this much power and controls 95% of what I see, hear and cosume in this state. I love the people, hate the organization. That 1800's attitude doesnt fly in 2006.
Book burning is fun, mmmmkay?
Ya this kind of reminds me of that one Simpsons episode when they have that book burning truck that Rev. Lovejoy is driving.
Actually I don't think this is the same thing as what your talking about.
