Is It Friday?

This means the X96 Big Ass Show is a week from tomorrow. Holy crap! Please get your tickets now so you don't have to line up at the door.

Things have been so busy for me that here it is Friday, and I'm slammed with Big Ass Show stuff. But it's fun. I can't wait.

Join me tomorrow with Rainey Homes in Daybreak 11311 South Kestral Rise Road. I'll be there with BASH tickets and the 2005 Mustang, broadcasting live from 11 to 1.

Everyone gets a free hug!

I Blow Whistles

Actually, I look just like a referee. This is from the West Jordan / Hillcrest game a couple of weeks ago. Now you know what I do on Friday nights. Be kind to the officials.

10:20 am "Our Lawyer Made Us Change The Name Of This Song So We Wouldn't Get Sued" Fall Out Boy (Chatting with F.O.B. lyricist Pete Wentz at the Warped Tour last summer, I found out that--like me--he's a huge fan of Morrissey and The Smiths. His lyrics illustrate this.)

1:20 pm "No New Tale To Tell" Love And Rockets (I love this old song. Enough said.)

Artie's Food Porn

The fun stuff happens off the air here at X96. Meetings with Radio From Hell are hilarious, and we can't broadcast any of it (the FCC would arrest us.) Behind the scenes at X96 are a blast.

Let me share a monthly email that we get from Artie Fufkin. We like to call it "Artie's Food Porn of the Month." It's simple. He sends us a photograph of chicken fried steak from KFC or something from Cracker Barrel. Yesterday's email was from Cracker Barrel. The heading of his email was "Look what's new at the Barrel!"

The attachment was this picture:

RATED F causing trouble in schools

I've had two different students from two different schools (West High and Woods Cross High) tell me that they're getting heat from teachers and administrators for reading RATED F.

It's because of the cover of the book: a photo of a gun and a videotape. I'll assume the gun is what has everybody upset.

All I can say to the "educators" is this: You better get all of the history books and scribble out the mention of any weapons in the chapters about the various wars fought throughout history. You better not discuss current world events and terrorism. Don't let anyone read To Kill A Mockingbird because it has the word "kill" in it. Someone might start killing birds. Don't serve meat at the school cafeteria, because the animals it came from were ... well ... killed.

Don't let the kids think for themselves. They might learn something. That picture of the gun on the front cover of RATED F? It might be the cardboard binder of a novel that shows us that guns are indeed dangerous.

But most importantly, dear "educators," don't judge a book by its cover.

Oh my god. Kids actually wanting to read? What is this world coming to?

Martin L. Gore

Martin Gore of Depeche Mode is a briliant songwriter. His music and lyrics have always amazed me. Since I worship him, I wanted to share his lyrics for Depeche Mode's new single, "Precious."

"Precious"
Depeche Mode
Words and music by Martin L. Gore

Precious and fragile things
Need special handling
My God what have we done to you
We always tried to share
The tenderest of care
Now look what we have put you through

Things get damaged
Things get broken
I thought we'd manage
But words left unspoken
Left us so brittle
There was so little left to give

Angels with silver wings
Shouldn't know suffering
I wish I could take the pain for you
If God has a master plan
That only He understands
I hope it's your eyes He's seeing through

Things get damaged
Things get broken
I thought we'd manage
But words left unspoken
Left us so brittle
There was so little left to give

I pray you learn to trust
Have faith in both of us
And keep room in your hearts for two

Things get damaged
Things get broken
I thought we'd manage
But words left unspoken
Left us so brittle
There was so little left to give
